Passwords are never stored locally -- every authentication request is forwarded to the configured remote service, keeping credentials centralized on existing infrastructure. ## Part of Classic (OC10) This app is part of the [ownCloud Server (OC10)](https://github.com/owncloud/core) authentication ecosystem. It allows organizations to leverage their existing FTP, IMAP, SMB or WebDAV infrastructure for ownCloud user authentication. The ownCloud Server is available on [Docker Hub](https://hub.docker.com/r/owncloud/server). ## Getting Started Follow the steps below to install and configure external authentication backends. ### Installation Install from the [ownCloud Marketplace](https://marketplace.owncloud.com/), or manually: ```bash cd apps git clone https://github.com/owncloud/user_external.git cd .. php occ app:enable user_external ``` ### Configuration Add the desired backend to `config/config.php`. Examples: **FTP:** ```php 'user_backends' => array( array( 'class' => 'OC_User_FTP', 'arguments' => array('127.0.0.1'), ), ), ``` **IMAP:** ```php 'user_backends' => array( array( 'class' => 'OC_User_IMAP', 'arguments' => array( '{127.0.0.1:143/imap/readonly}', 'example.com' ), ), ), ``` **SMB:** ```php 'user_backends' => array( array( 'class' => 'OC_User_SMB', 'arguments' => array('127.0.0.1'), ), ), ``` **WebDAV:** ```php 'user_backends' => array( array( 'class' => '\OCA\User_External\WebDAVAuth', 'arguments' => array('https://example.com/webdav'), ), ), ``` ### Building ```bash make all # Install all dependencies make dist # Build distribution package ``` ### Running Tests ```bash make test-php-unit # Run PHP unit tests make test-php-style # Check code style make test-php-phpstan # Run static analysis ``` ## Documentation - [ownCloud Server Admin Manual](https://doc.owncloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/) - [External User Authentication](https://doc.owncloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/configuration/user/) ## Community & Support **[Star](https://github.com/owncloud/user_external)** this repo and **Watch** for release notifications! - [ownCloud Website](https://owncloud.com) - [Community Discussions](https://github.com/orgs/owncloud/discussions) - [Matrix Chat](https://app.element.io/#/room/#owncloud:matrix.org) - [Documentation](https://doc.owncloud.com) - [Enterprise Support](https://owncloud.com/contact-us/) - [OSPO Home](https://kiteworks.com/opensource) ## Contributing We welcome contributions!
